SS24 - IN LOVING MEMORY OF MY SUGAR DADDY
We are gathered here today to celebrate the rise of the post-feminist Namilia hero. A beacon of transcending societal norms, she navigates through gender inequality head-on. For Spring/Summer 2024, Namilia is celebrating the self-made millionaire that is the gold digger. In the Bible, women are depicted in one of two mutually exclusive ways: as the virgin or as the whore. The myth of Adam and Eve establishes women as the demonic seductress responsible for the downfall of mankind. Western European society’s inequality and rigid views on gender have been oppressively enforced across the globe, a legacy that remains throughout modern society. Sex work is the most literal application of capitalism, of selling our beings and our bodies to survive. In this era of digital identity, late-stage capitalism,
and neoliberal politics, sex work should be decriminalized as one of the oldest forms of labor. With Namilia S/S 24 “In Loving Memory
of My Sugar Daddy,” the cliche of the gold digger is turned on its head as we play with visual cues to challenge sexist assumptions.
We celebrate using hyperfemininity to get what you want—and what you fucking deserve. Our army of bimbo sugar babies, glamorous trophy wives, and villainous vixens are breaking norms of femme sexual expression. If men are to objectify women by turning them into status symbols or a luxury product, then it is only right that the Namilia woman views him as merely a means to an end, a human bank account for her own ascension. For our deadly it-girls, being hot is a full-time job. May the man rest in peace and his money live long and prosperously.
